Almost Monsoon Season!

The desert monsoons have been trying really hard to start.  Wildfires are terrible in AZ right now so we really need rain.  Tucson won't have any fireworks this 4th of July because it is too dry.  Last night we were surrounded by beautiful storm clouds but the rain never came.  There was a great lightning storm going on in the distance.  Monsoons usually start mid-June, so they are running late.  Next week there is a good chance they will finally come.

June 29th, Mom's B-Day

We took Mom to Blanco's, a great Mexican place that is 5 minutes from us.  It's one of our favorite places to go. Below she is posing with the table runner that she made for us.

June 24th, James B-Day

For James' b-day we ate at Old Pueblo Grille with Tricia, Michael, Harold, & Mellie, a.k.a. Brenda.  It has a gorgeous patio, but we sat inside due to the soaring temperature.  Tricia recommended this place for it's Southwestern cuisine, & it was delicious!  James got a lot of good gifts, but his new Wii wrestling game Smackdown vs. Raw (I'm not joking) is definitely getting the most use.

Bobcat
James saw a bobcat at work.  No, he didn't take this picture but that would have been cool! ;)

Hello All!

We made it through May!

Since our last entry James has joined me in working at the Hilton El Conquistador.  Today is the first day he has had off in 8 days.  They have been working him pretty hard, but he works with some nice people in his department and he has stayed positive about it.  Pretty impressive, especially considering that most days are 100 degrees now.  He frequently comes down to the pool to say hi when I'm working.  Monday he came down just in time to see a freak gust of wind rushing through the pool area, creating a water vortex that shot into the sky, knocked over all the umbrellas, sent several umbrellas soaring into the air and then crashing back down, and sent chairs and food flying.  One woman was slightly injured but luckily that was it.

Tomorrow is James' big Microbiologist interview.  It would be SO GREAT if he got it.  He has been studying a lot over the last 2 weeks.  Keep your fingers crossed!!!!

I haven't been having as nice of a time at the Hilton as James.  A couple of the girls I waitress with are very snobby and unwelcoming, which has made it a very uncomfortable work environment.  I confessed to my manager that I would be teaching in July and that I would be leaving at the end of June.  I don't know if I'll make it all the way through June though.

Last week I was able to see the classroom I'll be working in at the charter school.  I really have my work cut out for me.  There is not even 1 closet to put things in.  I'm going to have to be very creative.

James and I have been working so much that we haven't had a lot of time for doing things around town.  We have seen the family a little bit but not as much as we'd like, especially since sadly Teri has left to Prescott with her husband Joe to set up their new house.  In the next few days they will be coming back to get Amber and Abby.  Prescott is a 3 1/2 hour drive from Tucson, which isn't so bad.  And we can meet in Phoenix on the occasional weekend.

Nieces

I got this Shera castle when I was about 5 years old.  Now 25 years later it's getting some love again.
